The General Securities Sales Supervisor
Qualification Examination, or Series
9/10, tests a candidate’s knowledge
of securities industry rules and regulations
that apply to the supervision of a general
securities-oriented branch office.
The Series 9/10 is required for individuals
who must register as principals to supervise
sales activities in corporate, municipal
and options securities, investment company
products, variable contracts, and direct
participation programs. In addition to branch
office managers, regional and national sales
managers may also register in this capacity.
Note: The Series
9/10 alone does NOT qualify an individual
to supervise any function other than sales.
Individuals in senior management and those
who supervise other areas such as compliance,
underwriting, and trading may need to take
other qualification exams.
The testing time is 1 1/2 hours for the
Series 9, which contains 55 options questions.
Four (4) hours are allowed for the Series
10, which has 145 questions covering NASD,
New York Stock Exchange, Municipal Securities
Rule Making Board, and Securities and Exchange
Commission rules.
To pass the Series 9/10, a 70% is required
on BOTH the Series 9 (39 out of
55 questions must be answered correctly) AND on
the Series 10 (102 out of 145 questions
must be answered correctly). The Series
9/10 can be taken in any order at any time
within the candidate’s 120-day testing
window.
